: Solar swimming pool heaters utilize energy from the sun as their heat source. This is the most environmentally friendly option, and while they may require more of an investment upfront, the savings will pay off in the long run. Their heating process is generally slower but will still allow you to extend your swimming season without having to rely on gas or electricity.

           Essential Swimming Pool Cleaning Supplies

Owning a swimming pool is a blessing during the hot summer months. It provides you with endless hours of relaxation and cooling. Your pool is not just there and ready to use whenever you want without any upkeep needed. It needs to be routinely cleaned to keep the water safe and prevent damage to your pool components. Cleaning a pool is no easy task without the help of cleaning supplies. In this blog post, we will discuss the pool cleaning must-haves that every pool owner should have.

            Pool Skimmer:

All sorts of debris like bugs, leaves, and twigs will make its way into your pool and float on the surface. This dirties up the water, can clog the filter, and make it unpleasant to get in the pool. You need a skimmer to help remove skim out floating debris and keep your pool clean.

           Pool Brush:

Your pool liner will get dirty from scale buildup, dirt, and debris. It makes the surfaces all around the pool slippery and can damage the liner. A pool brush helps you safely scrub away any residue that is on your pool liner and keeps it protected from the harmful effects of any buildups.

           Pool Vacuum:

While your pool skimmer is great for removing floating debris, some will make its way to the bottom of the pool. A pool vacuum helps to suck up and remove debris that is stuck at the bottom of your pool.

           Pool Test Kit:

Maintaining balanced chemical levels in your pool water is crucial to keeping it clean. A pool test kit is needed to regularly monitor pH levels, alkalinity, and other chemical levels. This allows you to know when to add chemicals such as algae shock to your pool water.

            Pool Chemicals:

Pools regularly require chemical treatments to keep the water safe and clean for use. Pool chemicals like algaecide, chlorine, pH Adjusters, and alkalinity adjusters are commonly used to balance water chemical levels. Be sure to always have a stock of all applicable pool chemicals you need during the swimming season.

           Pool Filter Cleaner:

Your pool filter plays a crucial role in filtering out contaminants in the water. You will need a pool filter cleaner to keep the filter performing optimally all season long.

            Pool Cover:

A pool cover helps keep falling debris and pests out of your pool while it is not being used. It also helps reduce heat loss and evaporation.

           Telescopic Pole:

A telescopic pole is a versatile tool that allows you to attach various cleaning attachments such as a skimmer net, brush, or vacuum head. It can be adjusted to different lengths, making it easier to reach all areas of your pool. Look for a durable and lightweight pole that is compatible with different cleaning attachments.

How to Maintain Your Swimming Pool

When you have a swimming pool, you want to get all the use you can out of it! However, if you don’t properly clean and maintain your swimming pool, no one will want to swim in green, dirty water. Properly maintaining your swimming pool can also prevent parts and filters from malfunctioning. If you are having issues keeping your pool looking its best, here are 5 pool maintenance tips from All Pro Pool & Spa Repair Service Inc.

           1. Check & Balance Chemical Levels

If chemicals in your pool are not balanced correctly it can cause many problems. When pH levels are too low it can cause algae growth, bacteria growth, and murky water. When pH levels are too high it can cause skin irritation and damage to pool equipment. A high pH also causes chlorine to become less active, causing people to end up adding too much chlorine to their pool. Chlorine generators are a great way to provide a steady flow of chlorine through your pool. Your pool’s pH level should be between 7.2 and 7.8.

           2. Skim

Regularly skimming your pool can actually make a big difference in your pool’s appearance! Daily skimming prevents leaves and debris from sinking to the bottom of your pool. You should also scrub your pool to prevent algae buildup and stains. This will help keep your pool looking sparkling clean.

           3. Clean Your Filter

Your pool’s filter helps remove debris and dirt from the water. Your filter should be properly maintained to keep your pool clean. If you have a cartridge filter, every few weeks you should remove spray down the cartridge or use filter cleaner. If you have D.E. or sand filter you will need to backwash your filter every 1 to 3 months. However, you should chemically clean your D.E. or sand filter at least once a year.

           4. Check Water Levels

Checking your pool’s water level is very important. If the water level is too low, it can cause your pump to heat up and possibly burn out. You can avoid this by taking a hose and adding more water to your pool. If your water levels are too high, your skimmer will not operate correctly and may not pick up debris. You can avoid this by getting a pump to drain the excess. Autofills are another way to regulate water level. Your pool’s water level should always be halfway up to the opening of your skimmer.

           5. Vacuum Your Pool

Vacuuming your pool can help remove those hard to reach debris at the bottom. It is recommended to vacuum your pool once a week during active months to prevent algae growth and stains. You can purchase your own pool vacuum and do it yourself or you can hire a pool maintenance service to do it for you.

5 Signs You Need to Clean Your Pool

           H

aving a swimming pool at home can be a blessing during the hot summer months. They help you keep cool in the summer heat while enjoying the sunshine and surrounding landscape. However, a dirty pool can be a nightmare. A dirty pool can damage the various components of your pool such as the filter, pump, and heater. It can also be dangerous for your family to swim in an unclean pool. So, you want to keep a regular cleaning schedule for your pool and be aware of the signs that your pool needs to be cleaned. These signs include:

           Cloudy or Discolored Water:

Your pool water should be transparent with a light blue hue in color. If you notice that it is discolored or cloudy, it is a clear sign that your pool needs to be cleaned. Cloudiness can be caused by debris buildups, algae growth, and chemical imbalances. Regularly test your water’s pH and chlorine levels to prevent your water from becoming discolored.

           Presence of Debris:

It is common for things like leaves, twigs, insects, and other debris to get into your pool’s water. Routine skimming of your pool should help keep most debris out of your pool. However, sometimes excessive amounts of debris can get into your pool. If you notice excessive amounts of debris, it’s a clear sign that you need to skim and/or vacuum your pool.

           Algae Growth:

Algae growth is a common problem for pools that are not properly maintained. Algae can cause your pool water to turn green, slimy, or even black. If you notice algae growth in your pool, you need to take immediate action. You need to clean your pool liner and add chemical treatment to get rid of the algae. To prevent algae growth in your pool, regularly clean your pool liner and add the applicable pool chemicals.

           Foul Odor:

Your pool should never emit a strong, unpleasant odor. If it does, you need to clean your pool immediately. Pool odors are often caused by the presence of bacteria and debris in your water. Regularly sanitize and shock your pool with the applicable pool chemicals. This will help your pool water stay fresh and clean.

            Decreased Water Circulation:

Water circulation is critical to maintaining a clean and clear pool. If you notice that your pool jets have reduced water flow, you have an issue. The common cause is a clogged or dirty pool filter. Check your filter and clean it regularly to ensure that your pool has adequate water circulation. If necessary, replace your filter when needed.

           Above-Ground Versus In-Ground Swimming Pools

It’s usually tough for homeowners to decide whether an above-ground or in-ground pool would be a better fit for their household. Some argue that in-ground pools are always a better choice, but you must weigh the pros and cons of above-ground versus in-ground pools to truly decide which one will be best for your family. You should consider the price of swimming pool maintenance, swimming pool repairs, and swimming pool cleaning services for both kinds of pools as well. Here’s a bit more information about each type of swimming pool to help you decide:

           In-Ground Swimming Pool

           Pros:

            Last for years -

An in-ground pool will last for many years, so you don’t have to worry about not getting your money’s worth when you see the cost of them. You and your family will get to enjoy the pool together and then later your grandchildren, if you have any. The longevity of in-ground pools is a huge selling point for many homeowners.

           Better aesthetics -

Although looks are not everything when you are trying to decide what type of swimming pool to get, in-ground pools are very aesthetic

ally pleasing. If you plan to move and sell your house after living in it for a little while, the value of your home will significantly increase, if you have an in-ground pool.

           Cons:

            Cost more money -

In-ground pools will cost more money to purchase and keep up with maintenance because they are bigger than above-ground pools. Be sure to discuss the typical costs for swimming pool maintenance each year for an in-ground pool before purchasing one.

           Require more maintenance -

Swimming pool maintenance for an in-ground pool will involve a lot more chemicals and cause your electric bill to increase. In-ground pools will also need swimming pool resurfacing to be done every 12-15 years, which can be a little pricy.

           Above-Ground Swimming Pool

           Pros:

           Cheaper -

It’s much cheaper to buy an above-ground pool because the materials to build it are much cheaper. In addition to low cost, above-ground pools also take a lot less time to install which means less money to pay them for the labor of installation as well.

            Not expensive to maintain -

The swimming pool maintenance for an above-ground pool is much less extensive than the maintenance for an in-ground pool. Not only are above-ground pools smaller, but they also have a less complicated installation process.

           Cons:

Don’t typically increase home value -

Since above-ground swimming pools are so much cheaper than in-ground pools, they don’t typically increase the value of a property. So, if you are looking to increase the value of your home, go with an in-ground pool, not an above-ground pool.

           Less space -

Above-ground pools tend to be much smaller than in-ground pools, so not as many people can swim comfortably at the same time. However, if you are not having huge parties all the time then a smaller pool won't be a big deal.

          •	Night Swimming

Being able to heat up your pool during a cool night allows you to enjoy the water that otherwise would be cold.

          •	The Ability to Control Temperature

You can turn your swimming pool heater on and off as you please. This allows you to get your pool’s water temperature to where you like it.

          •	Better In-pool Workouts

Swimming is a low-impact workout that is easy on the joints. Swimming in a heated pool is even better for you because it helps prevent stiffness, aches, and joint pains.

Eventually, all swimming pools will require service and repairs. Neglecting these necessary repairs can result in further damage to your pool and could end up costing you a significant amount of time and money. If you want your swimming pool to stay in optimal shape, it is important to pay attention to its condition. Here are some signs to keep an eye out for that could mean your pool needs attention.

           Discolored Grout

This will happen in pretty much any swimming pool and is due to a combination of factors. Dirt and grime get lodged in the tiny spaces in the grout and the discoloration comes from the chemical reactions between the water in your swimming pool and the grout material itself. The best way to clean grout is by using an acidic solution that will break down the grime and reverse discoloration.

           Blocked Pipework

If you notice that your pool water is becoming dirty, but your filter seems to be working properly, you may have an issue with the piping that draws the water to and from the filter. The piping that moves water to and from your pool filter is susceptible to debris which can find its way into your pool. Professionals can go into the pipes to clear out any blockages so that your filter can do its job.

           Malfunctioning Heater

If your heater is not working, there could be a number of possible issues. It is possible that the heater is simply not getting adequate water flow or even airflow to function properly. If the heater is getting the water flow and airflow it needs, it is also possible that the controls are malfunctioning - especially on an older unit. If your heating unit is aging, failing, or just energy inefficient, we can help determine if it can be repaired or needs to be replaced.

           Cracks in the Walls

Concrete pools can develop cracks over time. The cracks may be due to something as simple as repeated expansion and contraction as the temperature changes. If cracks are not dealt with quickly, they can develop into much more costly leaks. If a crack is small enough, it may be able to be sealed but if the cracks are larger or more widespread, your pool may need a complete resurfacing. On average, a concrete pool should be resurfaced every three to seven years. Resurfacing proactively - before cracks develop - will save your pool from possible leaks and worse damage.

Getting Ready to Close Your Pool

Although Florida is typically warm year-round, during the winter months, temperatures can drop to the low 50’s. During this time, you may want to close your pool for the winter to avoid extra maintenance, costs, and damage to equipment. All Pro Pool & Spa Repair Services is here to provide you with the steps on how to prepare and close your pool for the winter.

           1.	Clean

Before closing your pool, its important to make sure you clean out any debris or items that may be in the water or filter. Leaving any debris in your pool can stain the sides and bottom and create algae.

           2.	Balance Pool Chemicals

Make sure you balance the chemicals in your pool before you close it. This helps to prevent algae outbreaks and damage to equipment. On top of your typical water balance chemicals, you may want to add extra chemicals for the winter, such as Winter Stain-Away, Winter Algaecide, and Chlorine-Free Pool Shock for extra protection.

           3.	Keep Your Pump Running

When living in Florida, you should not drain your pool! Since the weather doesn’t reach freezing temperatures, draining your pool can cause increased algae growth. Instead, balance your pool’s chemicals and run the pump. You should run your pump for a few hours every day to keep debris out of your pool and water circulating.

           4.	Cover Your Pool

Covering your pool for the winter can help keep it clean and preserve the chemicals. This makes for less upkeep of your pool during the winter and an easier reopening when the weather gets warmer.

Your pool chemicals are one of the most important aspects of your pool. By using a test kit, you are
